I’m ester (de Roij)
And I hate cucumber.
The obligatory pitch blurb: i am a Bristol-based wildlife cinematographer (or camerawoman, although I think we’re trying to normalise cinematographer), and I specialise in field craft when filming animal behaviour. I usually shoot long-lens and enjoy using gimbals on blue chip natural history series. I have spent many weeks in the field both directing and shooting sequences, in countries from Japan, to South Africa to Costa Rica and up to Canada. I am heavily involved in training up and creating opportunities for women trying to make their way in this industry. Although I own some timelapse and camera trap kit, mostly I will need kit hired in.
Key skills/technical abilities:
Long lens, gimbals, timelapse and drone
Dabbled in macro (in the field), camera traps
Shotover-qualified technician
GVC license
Fieldcraft relating to animal behaviour/interpretation
Multilingual
Other interests
I have spent 2 years working with brown bears on the Canadian west coast, and have my BSAC Rescue Diver qualification. I spent 8 years rowing competitively so I have a higher than average fitness/strength and I’m playing around with turning my photography into jewellery!
Please get in touch directly about availability for any shoots, events or stock. I typically work on a first come-first served basis and am happy to discuss your project requirements for advice and guidance.
